Lithium-Ion Batteries Banned from Passenger Aircraft

ICAO prohibits them from cargo shipments on passenger flights from 1st April 2016

6th April 2016

Whilst this is advertised as an interim measure, it will be in force as long as the ICAO continues to work on a new lithium battery packaging performance standard, expected in 2018.

The new measure applies only to lithium-ion batteries shipped as cargo on passenger aircraft. Other lithium batteries are allowed to be transported under stringent conditions, and lithium-ion batteries are acceptable on cargo-only flights. Please call us on 023 8064 6340 to discuss your lithium battery packing needs.
