Background: When ABB, the global leader in power and automation technologies, needed to ensure that their multitude of vital cabinets and components were transported securely to an offshore platform, they asked P&M Packing to deploy our expertise to prepare the items for shipment. Given the importance of the cargo, the packing requirements were naturally rigorous, including as they did bespoke ISPM15 certified travel bases for the cabinets, Kraft paper lining, foil barrier protection and desiccant, shrink wrap, ISPM15 certified case sides and lids, polythene wrap, stencilling and marking for export, as well as ABB’s specified markings, plus ‘shockwatch’ and ‘tiltwatch’.
Solution: We collected the cabinets and components from the supplier, packed the cases at the specialist P&M facility, stored them, prepared them for shipping, organised container load plans and finally carried out the loading. We fulfilled every element of the above specification, manufacturing ISPM15 certified bases, sides and lids for the cases, utilising an all screwed construction. We also undertook all of the lining, wrapping and marking phases of the process. In addition, we supplied complete inventories of the contents of each case, in accordance with the ABB packing list and instructions. ABB sent an inspector from Norway to ensure that P&M’s work had been carried out in accordance with all specifications; the shipping line also audited our activities. We are pleased to report that we passed both inspections with flying colours.
